You can now explore the main sights thanks to our sparkling new Hop on Hop off Bus Civitavecchia.

If you want to discover more and/or enter one of the attractions on the route, you can get off as many times as you like at the indicated stops and continue your sightseeing tour on our magnificent Hop on Hop off once you are back on board.

During the tour, an assistant will be on board the bus ready to support you, accompany you along the route and give you historical explanations of the places you will visit on the way.

Our assistant will provide you with a map on board with the stops and the route so that you always know where you are and what sights you are admiring.

ROUTE STOPS

1st STOP: The historic Piazza Calamatta, from which you can reach the Old Town from Piazza Leandra, in the heart of the ancient medieval village where the small Church of the Stella stands, and passing through the Porta dell’Archetto until you reach Piazza Saffi, where you can still see the remains of the ancient city walls built by Antonio da Sangallo at the behest of Pope Leo X.

2nd STOP: The Cathedral of St Francis of Assisi, Civitavecchia’s main church, in the city centre built in the 17th century

The National Archaeological Museum of Civitavecchia, housed in the 18th-century palace of Clement XIII

The Michelangelo Fort, commissioned from the famous artist Bramante, author of the famous Bramante Cloister, to defend the Port of Civitavecchia from constant pirate raids by Pope Julius II

The Marina of Civitavecchia, where the famous Statue of the Kiss stands and where Civitavecchia’s historic seafront promenade winds along

3rd STOP: The Pirgo, where you can find restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets overlooking the sea. There are many typical seafood dishes, including Zuppa di Pesce Civitavecchiese (Civitavecchia fish soup), Fettuccine allo Scoglio (fettuccine with seafood), I Polpetti Affogati alla Civitavecchiese (Civitavecchia-style poached meatballs), le Lumachelle di mare (sea snails), and Calamari (squid).

4° The Church of the Japanese Martyrs, where you can admire the splendid frescoes by Japanese painter Luca Hasegawa

5° STOP: The Terme Taurine or Terme di Traiano, dating back to Etruscan and Roman times, named after the famous Roman Emperor Trajan and one of the most important thermal complexes of the Roman era in all of southern Etruria

Enjoy the fantastic views of this city full of history that developed from an Etruscan settlement, which became a strategic point in Roman times and then in the Middle Ages thanks to the various Pontiffs who contributed much to the city by commissioning the construction of monuments and historical buildings, and experience the fascinating atmosphere of this port town on board our open-top tour bus.

The departure of the Hop On Hop Off bus is scheduled at 10 a.m. from the Largo della Pace Terminal in Civitavecchia.

If you are staying in a hotel in Civitavecchia: to reach our Civitatours meeting point you can walk to the Largo della Pace Terminal, you will find us inside.

The Hop on Hop off Civitavecchia bus fares are as follows:

• Reduced: children (3 – 12 years) 10 €
• Free: children (0 – 2 years old)

There will be an assistant on board the bus who will accompany you on the tour and give you all the historical explanations and anecdotes of the places you will visit.
